SANTA CRUZ, CA (CNN) -- There's a new animal on the dance floor.

Meet Ronan, a sea lion at the Long Marine Laboratory in California.

Here she is bobbing to her head to the beat of her favorite tunes, Earth Wind and Fire's "Boogie Wonderland" and the Backstreet Boys.

Researchers at University of California-Santa Cruz trained her to nod her head in time with rhythmic sounds.

They then showed her she could transfer the skills to music she hadn't heard before.

Ronan was born in the wild in 2008 and rescued a year later after she was found stranded on a highway.

Her sense of rhythm defies an earlier theory about the origins of rhythmic ability in animals.

Aside from humans, this talent for mimicry was previously seen only in parrots and other birds.
