MUNICH, Germany (CBS) -- Canadian pop star Justin Bieber was left without his pet monkey last Thursday after German customs officials took the little capuchin monkey Mally into quarantine last week for not having the appropriate paperwork.

Now, almost a week later, the little travel companion of the singer is still in 'custody' at a Munich animal shelter - and not a word has been heard from Bieber.

Karl-Heinz Joachim of the animal shelter said that they received a call from the customs office in Munich that a monkey would be sent to the shelter which they had to impound.

Mally seemed to be very happy and played with the soft toy provided and some keys, but Joachim said that the situation is more that difficult for the little animal.

"Well, if he (Bieber) does nothing than the animal will stay here. The customs office has told us that they will reimburse us for four weeks. If he has not got in touch with us until then, the customs office will probably 'release' it (the monkey), meaning it will stay with us indefinitely." And he added that the shelter will be looking for an appropriate place for the little monkey to stay, saying that "it sure won't be a private home where the animal is by itself but a place that is appropriate for the species."

According to media reports the 19-year-old singer had flown into Germany with the capuchin monkey without correct documentation.

Bieber had been in Munich for a concert last Thursday (March 28) on the latest leg of his European tour, and he left Munich for Vienna by bus, without the monkey.

Bieber's antics are the latest in a series of odd incidents involving the teen singer, who has recently also been in the media for an altercation with his neighbor and for startling photographers and Polish airport officials by stripping off his shirt on a freezing evening as he walked through security to his private jet.

On March 8 Bieber was caught on film losing his temper with a paparazzi photographer in London. The Canadian singer was also booed by his fans in the UK when he showed up late to a concert.

During another show at London's 02 Arena the star struggled with his breathing and fainted backstage.
