    Arkansas Business: Brandon House building under contract

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Arkansas Business) -- The Dow Jones industrial average closed at another record high, driven by a surge in materials companies.

    Those stocks led the gains following a surge in prices for commodities like copper.

    In all, three stocks rose for every two that fell on the New York Stock Exchange. Trading volume was relatively light at 3.2 billion shares.

    You'll remember the Dow most recently set a record a week ago. It's now up 12 percent this year.

    USA Truck Inc. disclosing CEO salary details

    Here in Arkansas, USA Truck Inc. of Van Buren disclosing salary details for its new CEO, John Simone.

    Simone, named CEO in February, is up for a base salary of $460,000 in base salary, plus stock options and incentive bonus opportunities; that's according to the company's most recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

    Simone's compensation package will be voted on at USA Truck's May 8 shareholders meeting in Van Buren.

    Former Brandon House building under contract

    Also this week, Arkansas Business has learned that the 130,000-SF building at 1100 S. University Ave. in Little Rock, the former Brandon House building, is under contract.

    Businessman James Barnes hopes to buy it and use about 30,000 SF for his business, BBA Solutions. The company sells textbooks to students at 100 college campuses in 20 states and its outgrown its home office on Kanis Road.

    That's of course is just a fraction of the 8.7-acre Brandon House development.

    Barnes has some other ideas for the rest of the space including exploring ideas with the Little Rock Technology Park Authority and other anchor tenants.

    A purchase price on that building hasn't yet been disclosed.
