JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) - The Arkansas State University men's and women's track and field teams are sure to be tested in this weekend's (April 11-14) action as the Red Wolves will face top-notch competition in a pair of non-scoring meets - the Ole Miss Invitational and the Tennessee Sea Ray Relays.

The Red Wolves will take almost a full squad, with the exception of throwers, to this weekend's (April 13-14) Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, Miss. The Ole Miss Invite starts this Saturday (April 13) with a tentative 9 a.m. (CT) start for the men's hammer throw and women's javelin events at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex. The meet is slated to conclude Sunday (April 14) as the final three events of the women's heptathlon are scheduled, beginning at 10 a.m. (CT). The men's decathlon also wraps up on Sunday with its last five events, commencing at 10:15 a.m. (CT).

"Ole Miss is a really good meet with great competition," said ASU head coach Jim Patchell. "We're going to open up those who have not competed in their primary events this weekend and are looking forward to some good performances."

The ASU women's team enters this weekend's competition listed 11th in the latest (April 8) NCAA South Central Region Outdoor Track Rankings with a second-week 191.71 team score. The national and regional rankings are conducted via the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Computer Rankings.

Arkansas State is taking its throwers to the Sea Ray Relays this weekend (April 11-13), which is hosted by the University of Tennessee at UT's Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. Action for A-State gets underway this Thursday (April 11) with the women's hammer throw at 4 p.m. (CT) proceeded by the men's hammer throw at 6:30 p.m. (CT). The throwing events resume Friday (April 12) with the men's discus at 12:15 p.m. (CT) and start back up again this Saturday (April 13) at noon as the women's discus is scheduled to be held.

"Coach (Matt) Kraft is taking our throwers to the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville," stated Patchell. "Sea Ray is a great meet for throwers because there's a lot of good competition and quality facilities. We should be able to get some good throws and move some of our athletes up on the national list."

Following this weekend's competition, Arkansas State will take part in the Vanderbilt Invitational next weekend, April 19-20, in Nashville, Tenn., before returning home to host the second annual Red Wolf Open Saturday, April 27, at the ASU Track and Field Complex in Jonesboro, Ark.
