Arkansas faces Texas A&M in weekend series

    FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The 12th-ranked Arkansas baseball team renews its rivalry with Texas A&M this weekend as the Razorbacks host the Aggies in a three-game series at Baum Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. on Friday, 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

    All three games of the weekend series will be televised. Friday's game will be shown on Cox Sports Television, Saturday's game will be televised on ESPNU and Sunday's game will be on ESPN2. All three games against the Aggies will also be available on the Razorback Baseball Radio Network from IMG. Three-time Arkansas Sportscaster of the Year Chuck Barrett and former Arkansas Sports Information Director Rick Schaeffer will have the call. A live blog and live stats for each game will be available on ArkansasRazorbacks.com. Fans can also follow updates of each game on @RazorbackBSB, the official Twitter account of the Razorback baseball team.

    Only general admission tickets remain for each game of the weekend series. General admission tickets are $8 and can be purchased by calling 1-800-982-HOGS (4647), by logging on to ArkansasRazorbacks.com or on gameday at Baum Stadium, while supplies last.

    Promotional giveaways are planned for all three games of the weekend series. On Friday, fans can receive a team photo card, sponsored by Arvest. Saturday is Chick-fil-A Sun Shade day, while Southwest Dairy Growth Charts and sunglasses, sponsored by AT&T will be given away on Sunday.

    The Razorbacks are 25-14 on the season and 9-6 in Southeastern Conference play. Arkansas enters the weekend second in the SEC Western Division, four games behind division leader LSU. Arkansas is coming off a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Nebraska on Tuesday in Lincoln. Jacob Mahan went 2-for-5 with a homer and a RBI to lead the Razorbacks at the plate. Joe Serrano also had two hits and drove in a run in game two of the twinbill.

    Arkansas is hitting .265 as a team entering this weekend's series vs. Texas A&M. Tyler Spoon leads the Razorbacks at the plate with a .316 batting average, three homers and 37 RBI. Jacob Mahan is hitting .308 with two home runs and 16 RBI, while Brian Anderson has a .301 batting average with two homers and 22 RBI. Joe Serrano is swinging the bat at a .298 clip with a homer and 13 RBI.

    The Razorback pitching staff leads the country with a team ERA of 1.77. Junior right hander Barrett Astin will start the series opener on Friday. Astin has a 2-2 record with a 2.62 ERA in 11 appearances, including seven starts. Junior righty Ryne Stanek will start the middle game of the series on Saturday. Stanek has a 4-2 record with a 1.64 ERA in nine starts. Senior left hander Randall Fant will start Sunday's series finale. Fant is 2-1 with a 2.36 ERA in seven starts.

    The Arkansas bullpen has compiled a 9-4 record with nine saves and a 1.19 ERA. Jalen Beeks has pitched in a team-high 18 games and has a 4-0 record with two saves and a 0.94 ERA. Brandon Moore has appeared in 14 games, all in relief, and is 1-2 with a 1.54 ERA. Colby Suggs has seen time in 12 games and has a team-high four saves with a 2.61 ERA. Trent Daniel has also pitched in 12 games and is 0-1 with one save and a 1.56 ERA. Michael Gunn is 1-0 on the season and has not allowed a run in 18 innings of work this season.

    Texas A&M is 21-17 on the season and 6-9 in league play. The Aggies enter the weekend sixth in the SEC West, seven games behind LSU. Texas A&M is coming off a midweek extra inning loss at Sam Houston State on Tuesday night.

    The Aggies are hitting .281 as a team and are led at the plate by Mikey Reynolds, who is hitting .394 with 17 RBI and 12 stolen bases. Cole Lankford is batting .368 with a homer and 20 RBI, while Troy Stein is hitting .307 with two round-trippers and 13 RBI. Kray Bratsen leads the Aggies with 13 stolen bases and is hitting .296 with 18 RBI.

    On the mound, the Texas A&M pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.68. The Aggies will start sophomore right hander Daniel Mengden in the series opener on Friday. Mengden has a 4-2 record with a 1.94 ERA in nine starts on the season. Freshman left hander Matt Kent will make his first start of the season in Saturday's game. Kent is 2-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 16 appearances, all out of the bullpen. Junior right hander Rafael Pineda will get the start in Sunday's game. Pineda is 3-3 with a 3.58 ERA in 10 appearances, including eight starts.

    Jason Jester has made a team-high 20 appearances out of the Aggie bullpen and has a team-leading nine saves with a 2-2 record and a 3.10 ERA. Parker Ray and A.J. Minter have each pitched in 15 games this season. Ray has no record with a 0.95 ERA, while Minter also has not received a decision and has a 2.57 ERA. Zach Brashear has made 13 appearances and is 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA.

    Arkansas trails the all-time series against Texas A&M 35-29 entering this weekend's series. The two teams have played 27 games in Fayetteville with the Aggies holding a 16-11 advantage. The Razorbacks and Aggies have not played since the 2008 season when Texas A&M claimed a 15-7 win in College Station.
