LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Fab Four thrilled this charming, small town with a visit to its airport in 1964, and the group is now memorialized at Beatles Park.
Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, May 1, 2013 - The Beatles have returned to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. The Fab Four thrilled this charming, small town with a visit to its airport in 1964, and the group is now memorialized at Beatles Park. A 20' X 10' hand etched metal sculpture in the likeness of the Abbey Road album cover is the centerpiece of the site, located on none other than Abbey Road in downtown Walnut Ridge.
One block away is another fascinating tribute, Guitar Walk at Cavenaugh Park, a 115' long walkway in the shape of an electric guitar. Guitar Walk is lined with tributes to nine rockabilly music legends, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins, who once frequented Rock 'n' Roll Highway 67.
The tributes include an audio tour narrated by Sun Studios recording artist Sonny Burgess. Both sites are free of charge, and bus parking is available. A coffee shop and self-serve yogurt shop are nearby, and local restaurants include a buffet that caters to motor coaches . You will also find shops that feature the work of local artisans and a fine collection of flea markets. For an hour or an afternoon, Walnut Ridge is the perfect stop.
