LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - If you're thinking about a movie this weekend, one filmed right here in Arkansas is now officially in theaters.

The film Mud opened Friday night, and one of the stars from Arkansas came out to welcome movie-goers in Russellville. He is 16-year-old Jacob Lofland from Briggsville in Yell County, and he drew quite a crowd in Russellville for a Friday night showing.

They lined up in the rain Friday evening, packing Russellville's Picwood Theater. Movie-goers bought tickets to see the movie and a chance to see one of its stars, Jacob Lofland.

"We're just really happy for him and that he got to start his career young," said Summer Ward from Danville.

"Oh it's amazing, like tonight all my friends and family are coming. The whole community is coming, and so I hope they like the movie," Lofland said.

Lofland stars as one of two teenage boys who find a mysterious fugitive hiding out on an island in the Mississippi. They form a pact with Matthew McConaughey's character, Mud, and help him avoid capture and reconnect with the love of his life, played by Reese Witherspoon.

"Just watching her get into character is one of them most amazing things I saw, and Matthew, he's just an amazing guy all around," Lofland said.

He's acting with some A-list celebrities and getting a lot of attention.

"He's changed a little bit from all the popularity, but he still has the same attitude and personality he's always had," said Ethan Mentz, one of Lofland's friends.

We got the scoop from one of Lofland's good friends, who was enjoying a night showcasing another rising star for Arkansas.

"You know I really like it, and it's something that I really enjoy doing that I never thought I would, so I really like it, and I hope it takes off," Lofland said.

Lofland stuck around to sign some autographed posters after the movie. If you missed him, he will be back at the Picwood theater on Saturday for a matinee show.
