PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - The Pine Bluff Police Department says one of its officers has died.

Chief Jeff Hubanks says Lieutenant JoAnn Bates died at home Tuesday night. He released a statement Wednesdady morning saying:

"It is with sadness and great sense of loss that I report to you that Lieutenant JoAnn Bates died at home last evening.

"The coming days will be difficult as we make preparations to say goodbye both personally and professionally. A loss such as this brings with it far more questions than answers and individually we become stunned and inarticulate. However, within our group we can find some measure of solace and it is a group- a department that we will best navigate these troubled waters.

"Let this be a time to come together. There is no more fitting memorial to the life and service of our dearly departed than that we become a better and more cohesive group."

THV 11 spoke with Redfield Police Chief Steve McFatridge they do not suspect foul play in Bates' death.
