Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Former Kansas State guard Angel Rodriguez has announced his decision to transfer to the University of Miami, according to The Miami Herald.

Rodriguez, who attended Miami's Krop High School, left Kansas State in late April, citing his wishes to be closer to his family living in Puerto Rico. The 5-foot-11 point guard was named Second-Team All-Big 12 as a sophomore in 2012-13, averaging 11.4 points per game, while leading the Wildcats in assists (5.2 apg), made 3-pointers (55) and steals (50).

The addition of Rodriguez for the Hurricanes comes just days after Shane Larkin declared for the NBA Draft.

"Angel is an exceptional point guard," Miami head coach Jim Larranaga said. "When you watch him, you immediately notice his ball-handling and passing skills. Like Shane (Larkin), he has a pass-first mentality, but if he sees an open lane, he won't hesitate to attack. We feel very, very good about Angel joining our program, especially since Shane made his decision.

It is not yet known whether Rodriguez will have to sit out the 2013-14 season per NCAA transfer rules or if he will be granted a hardship exemption for his family-related transfer decision.
