LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Literally thousands of cases keep the Pulaski County Prosecuting Office running on all cylinders. According to District Attorney Larry Jegley, sometimes attorneys in the office handle between 300-400 cases at a time.

Jegley said the only real solution to tackling the roughly 15,000 felonies is for crime to go down. Because of budget restraints, it's been 12 years since the office hired an additional attorney.

"The state general assembly's mindset is no additional personnel," according to Jegley.

The general assembly recently approved an extra position. Jegley said that will bump up his office to 45 attorneys.

"At any given moment there are thousands and thousands of cases that are under active prosecution by this office at the felony level and literally hundreds of thousands at the various district courts for misdemeanors and things of that nature," explained Jegley.

Jegley said the office has a support staff of nearly 80 people to help with the filing process and case load. For Jegley, the only solution will come by the obvious reduction of crime, but also needs more help.
