WASHINGTON (AP) - American officials say Israel launched an airstrike against a suspected weapons site in Syria.

The officials told The Associated Press that the attack happened overnight Thursday into Friday.

One official says it did not appear that a chemical weapons site was targeted. And one official said the strike appeared to have hit a warehouse.

It's not the first time Israel has targeted weapons in the past that it believes are being delivered to the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah. The strike came days after Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah (HAS'-ahn NAS'-ruh-lah) said his group would assist Syrian President Bashar Assad if needed in the effort to put down a bloody, 2-year-old uprising.

Word of the strike came on the same day President Barack Obama told reporters at a news conference in Costa Rica on Friday that he didn't foresee a scenario in which the U.S. would send troops to Syria.
