SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KTHV) -- Police in Springdale say a three-year-old boy is in the hospital after being hit by a woman who was allegedly driving drunk.
It happened Saturday at a restaurant near Maple and Thompson. According to Sgt. Chad Niccum with Springdale Police, the boy, his mother, and other children were leaving the restaurant when 21-year-old Maria Orta struck him with her vehicle.
The child was taken to a Little Rock hospital with multiple injuries, internal bleeding and broken bones.
Niccum says in a release Orta admitted to drinking alcohol prior to the accident. Her blood alcohol content was reportedly .150 at the time of the accident, nearly twice the legal limit.
Orta was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving. The case is still under investigation.
