FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Authorities are searching for a boater who was fishing late Tuesday night but never arrived back home.
"Just devastated ... It's just so sad. It just shows you that anything can happen," said Mandy Meehan, the boater's neighbor.
According to Maj. Andy Tackett with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Mark Allen Russell, 43, of Conway, is the boater said to have gone missing while fishing from a sand bar six miles west of Toad Suck Park.
"I saw the helicopter and I saw a speed boat coming down the river and he checked out the lock and dam and he was looking and he went away and he came back and before we knew it there were everyone searching and people coming asking us questions," said Ashley Shaffer, a woman camping in the area.
Search crews have said that his disappearance is because of a boating accident because of evidence found on the boat, which was found up against the dam Wednesday morning.
The search is over for tonight, but searchers plan to look for signs of Russell by foot Thursday on islands and sand bars.
