DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (ATU) - Rebecka Surtevall turned in a 74 (+2) on the second day of the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships, and sits in a three-way tie for 11th place at +4 for the tournament at the conclusion of play on Thursday.
The sophomore scored par on holes 1-3 before picking up a birdie on the par-4 fourth hole. After scoring par on five, Surtevall birdied another par-4, the 382-yard sixth hole to move to -2 for the round and climb to fourth on the leaderboard.
Surtevall scored par on the seventh hole before picking up a bogey on the par-5 eighth hole. A par on the ninth hole finished the front nine at -1.
After scoring par on holes 10, 11, and 12, Surtevall double-bogied the par-4 13th hole to move to +1 for the day. And after pars on 14, 15, and 16, Surtevall scored a bogey on the par-4 17th hole to move to +2 for the day.
Midway through the championship, Surtevall is six strokes behind overall leader Daniela Ortiz of Nova Southeastern, who followed her opening-round 67 with a second-round 75 and is -2 for the event. A three-way tie for second place is held by Lander University's Teresa Hernani, Linnea Johansson of Nova Southeastern, and Barry's Nancy Vergara. Lynn's Louise Manalo shot the day's low round at -3 and sits alone in fifth, two strokes off the overall pace, while Armstrong Atlantic's Kristen Samarco is in sixth place, four strokes off the pace at +2 for the tournament.
Lynn's Ellen Chambers, Rollins College's Annie Dulman, Wheeling Jesuit's Kasey Frazier, and Grand Canyon's Charlotte Jaengkit are tied for seventh at +3, while Surtevall and Nova Southeastern's Liliana Cammisa and Southwestern Oklahoma's Ashlynn Hall are all at +4 in a 11th-place tie.
