LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Little Rock School District is honoring 80 high school seniors at Academic Signing Day at the Arkansas Governor's Mansion.
The event is planned for 2 p.m. Monday. The district says Academic Signing Day is meant to mirror athletic signing days, when top athletes sign letters of intent to compete at the collegiate level.
The school district says many of this year's honorees will attend Arkansas schools, while others plan to attend Harvard, Northwestern and Washington University in St. Louis.
To qualify for Academic Signing Day, graduates must achieve one of the following: hold a 4.0 grade point average, be ranked fourth or higher in their class or be a National Achievement Scholarship semifinalist, a National Hispanic Scholar or a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.
