NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - North Little Rock police have a man in custody who they say set his fiancé on fire, who died as a result of her injuries.
Matthew Nichols, 46, allegedly set his fiancé 38-year-old Jessie McFadden on fire Monday night. Police say 90 percent of McFadden's body was burned. She died overnight Monday as a result of her injures.
Police say the incident happened just after 5 p.m. at 219 Water Street in North Little Rock. Several witnesses tell police they saw McFadden on fire, then saw Nichols pour more gasoline on her, accelerating the flames.
Nichols was originally charged with first degree domestic battery, but since McFadden died, the charges were upgraded to capital murder.
