NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs held a Memorial Day Ceremony with Governor Mike Beebe attending.

"To those who previously have paid, to those who are currently paying and even in deed those who will yet serve," said Governor Mike Beebe.

Beebe addressed veterans at Monday's Memorial Day Ceremony in North Little Rock.

"We honor specifically, the men and women who we have lost on this day, and we honor their families," said Beebe.

Hundreds of families gathered to remember their loved ones. Name after name was read, each one being remembered for the service they provided for our country.

"My father was in WW2, my father in WW1, my great-grandfather in the civil war," said Rebecca Hill.

During the ceremony Hill, held on to her daughter and granddaughter as they remembered the lives of those closest to them.

"You don't ever get over it," said Samantha Peterman. After serving 22 years in the Navy, Peterman's father unexpectedly passed away in 2009. "I mean, obviously I still wish my dad was here, but I'm proud of what he's done."

That pride is exactly what Governor Beebe says keeps our nation's tradition alive.

"On behalf of three million Arkansans, God bless you. I salute you," said Beebe.
