Ark. native soldier, Spc. Robert A. Peirce, killed in Afghanistan

    UNDATED (KTHV) - The Department of Defense (DOD) has announced the death of an Arkansas native.

    According to DOD, Spc. Robert A. Peirce, 20, of Panama, Okla., died June 3 in Tsamkani, Afghanistan, after his unit was attacked by a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. He was originally from Huntington, Ark.

    He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

    Senator Mark Pryor released the following statement after the announcement of Specialist Peirce's death:

    "Today I join all Arkansans in mourning the death of an American hero, U.S. Army Specialist Robert A. Pierce, who lost his life while serving in Afghanistan. Our state and nation will be forever grateful for his sacrifice. My heartfelt prayers are with the Pierce family during this difficult time."

    Second Lt. Justin L. Stisson, 23, of Pheonix, Ariz. was also killed.
