BRYANT, Ark. (KTHV) - A Bryant police officer was honored by law enforcement from out-of-state.

Members of the Matton, Illinois Police Department presented Officer Scott Johnson with a plaque after a murder suspect from Matton-Thomas O'Dell-shot the officer this past April while O'Dell tried to break into a store.

Officer Johnson said he did not have time to think; his training just kicked in.

"All I could think about was getting somebody there and getting him because I didn't know if he was going to stand back up. I didn't know what was going to happen, so get him in custody," said Johnson.

Despite being shot twice in the hand and once in the shoulder, Officer Johnson returned fire. The suspect died shortly after the shoot-out.
