LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Arkansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial has been a vision since 1985, and this week construction finally begins.

"It took years to get this approved," said Johnny Reep. "They cannot be forgotten when those names are engraved in granite."

The memorial will display the names of Arkansas firefighters who have died in the line of duty. Among those names will be Lieutenant David Curlin. Curlin died from injuries he sustained while fighting a fire in Pine Bluff, when a wall collapsed.

"It's been very hard, I have to admit," said George Curlin. Even though three years have passed, Curlin's father said it does not get easier, but this memorial will most certainly help bring him closure.

"It give a man like me a place to come that I can touch my son's name," added Curlin.

The project is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 16.
