LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The chairman of the state Democratic Party is stepping down after two and a half years at the helm.
The party announced Wednesday that Will Bond was leaving as the party's chairman. Bond, a former state representative from Jacksonville, was elected the party's chairman in February 2011.
Gov. Mike Beebe said in a statement issued by the party that he was recommending Vincent Insalaco as the party's new chairman. The party's state committee will elect a new chairman at its meeting Sept. 14 in Springdale.
Bond chaired the party as Democrats suffered major setbacks in the state. Republicans won control of the state Legislature for the first time since Reconstruction in the November election and swept all four of the state's U.S. House seats.
