LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Just because Craig O'Neill was on vacation last week, doesn't mean the news stops. It continued to pile up, and Craig returned to try and make sense of it all with winners and losers over the past few days. Here's how it all shakes out on this Monday.
Winner: The Little Rock Fire Department. They answered the call for school supplies with their 16th annual drive for children in need. Talk about perfect timing!
Mike Ross is a winner, too! Democrat or Republican, you have to admit he has come out of the gate with a lot of backing, and over the weekend got the endorsement of Governor Beebe.
But, we do have a loser politician-San Diego's Mayor Bob Filner. Sexual misconduct charges have gotten so bad against the embattled Mayor, there's now a big push in San Diego for a recall election. The Mayor has said he's getting counseling, but he's not stepping down.
Let's change the subject to something more pleasant--like what the Craig family did to honor Robbie Green. He was out fishing near Scott when he witnessed a car accident. He reacted quickly and rescued six year old Trinity Craig. While three people in the crash died, he and first responders saved Trinity, and yesterday the family gathered to say thank you.
A sports milestone was reached this weekend, and The Little Rock Kickball Association is now a winner. This season marks its 20th year, and the league is not only for sport and fun, but it has now become one of the top service organizations in Central Arkansas, raising money for countless charities.
And, finally the sport of horse racing vies us our final winner. In yesterday's 7th race at Gulfstream Park, a long shot came storming down the outside, winning by two lengths. It paid big. The horse's name? Channel 11, and get this, it was a filly. How symbolic was that? 'Cause the women have definitely taken over THV.
