FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Univ. of Ark.) - For the first time in program history, the University of Arkansas women's tennis team hosted a reunion last weekend, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of women's tennis at Arkansas with the first women's team being fielded in 1974.

Traveling from all across the country, including as far as Greece, alumni reunited in Fayetteville to attend the festivities. Activities included a Friday night dinner and social, Saturday morning tennis practice and attending the Arkansas football game against Southern Miss at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

Players representing all five decades attended the reunion, including Janan Batchelor who was runner-up in the AIAW nationals in 1975, the NCAA tournament of its time.

"It was an honor for myself and the current Razorback team to be able to get to know some of the trailblazers of our tennis program," head coach Michael Hegarty said. "You could see how much being a Razorback still means to them all and I am already looking forward to the next reunion."

A weekend of celebration and recollection, there were positive experiences had by all in attendance.

"From searching for our names on Senior Walk, to seeing all of the incredible changes to the campus, this was a perfect weekend for us all," said Brandy Tunnell, an All-SEC member of the 1996 squad.

Looking to add to the history of Arkansas women's tennis itself, the 2013-2014 team begins its competitive season this weekend with a dual-event weekend. Select student-athletes will compete at either the Little Rock Classic in Little Rock, Ark., or the William & Mary Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va., with both taking place Sept. 20-22.
