LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- THV11 Film Critic Jonathan Nettles takes on the action film Escape Plan starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Escape Plan stars Sylvester Stallone as Ray Breslin, the world's foremost authority on prison security. His job is to be placed in prison, treated as a member of the regular population, and exploit any security and structural weaknesses to escape. He takes on the biggest job of his life; breaking out of an ultra-secret, high-tech facility called "The Tomb". When he learns he's been deceived and faces the possibility of being left in the prison for the rest of his life, he recruits fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to devise a daring plan of escape.
There is a question you need to ask yourself before seeing Escape Plan. Are you interested in seeing two action movie legends in lead roles in the same film? If you answered "yes" then keep reading otherwise you might as well skip this article and the movie altogether. Next question: Do you care about deep plotlines, impeccable dialogue, and a completely believable story? If you answered "no" then this is your movie. I'm not saying Escape Plan is a bad film but you get exactly what you'd expect from a film starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Honestly, I was surprised by the movie. I'm a huge fan of the late 80's early 90's period of the action movie genre but I didn't expect Escape Plan to be good (at all). However, the film managed to recreate some of the fun that I remembered from watching the two actors on-screen and although the plot was simple, it was a lot smarter than I thought. This is not a big dumb action movie, it's a big fun action thriller.
