LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Little Rock School District met Thursday evening to make important member announcements and discuss what the "New" Little Rock School District now looks like.
At the meeting, the board elected long-time member Greg Adams to be the next Little Rock School Board President.
Norma Jean Johnson accepted the position of Vice President and Jody Carreiro is the new secretary.
The "New" Little Rock School District is a re-imaging brand that members hope will hopefully re-energize members, schools, staff, and students.
"(We want to) try to leave as much of the difficulties that we've had behind and focus on the good things that we can take with us but leave as much of the problems and things behind us," Adams explained. "And kind of come forward with a revitalized effort and focus on students and working together and going forward in a really progressive kind of a way."
The district's new superintendent Dr. Dexter Superintendent, who took office this summer, told the board he has been approached by another district to buy out his contract at Little Rock Schools. However, he declined the offer due to the commitment he has made to the district's students.
An item on the agenda that had gotten some attention included a more strict dress code for teachers and staff, which would require teachers to wear bras and underwear while at work. The board tabled that issue until a later meeting.
