LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV)- West Little Rock residents are encouraged to voice their opinion on a new Little Rock Police Department substation planned for Cantrell Road.

The new substation would go into the existing structure at 13700 Cantrell Road in West Little Rock. The building is owned by The Pankey Community Improvement Association and was supposed to be a community center before the plans fell through.

"We've known we needed a presence out there for quite a period of time so it's going to take some months to get the renovations completed so we really need to get started," says city manager Bruce Moore. "You can imagine the distance from getting in your car to getting out to your precinct so it's going to definitely improve our response times."

The Little Rock Board of Directors is expected to vote on the proposal November 19th. THV spoke with West Little Rock residents who said there's always a need for more police presence. "There has been an increase in crime in neighborhoods that have not experienced crime before," says Sheila Glasscock. "I would say I'm definitely for the substation being built."

Funding for the new substation will come from a 2011 voter approved sales tax. Moore says if approved, construction will begin next spring and be completed by the end of 2014.
