January 8, 2014 (USA Today) - You gotta love teens. Kate and Jon Gosselin's twins, Mady and Cara, are now 13.
And the girls, who have grown up in the spotlight with sibling sextuplets Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel and Leah, 9 - are telling it like it is in the new issue of People magazine (out Friday).
To those who think the girls have been harmed by the fame and their parents' public split, they say that's not the case.
"People expect us to be damaged," Cara says, as Mady joins in: "People think we're supposed to be messed up, like, 'Oooooh, the poor Gosselin kids, they're going to be scarred for life, waaaaah.' Here's the big news: we're not messed up."
Adds Cara: "We're fine. We're better than ever, actually."
As for mom Kate, 38, the two are equally frank.
"She is so annoying," Mady nearly shrieks, according to People.
Cara quickly adds, "But she's annoying on purpose. Like, she does it just to bother us."
Still, Kate fares better than Jon when it comes to the teens. When asked about the divorce drama, Mady says, "I don't remember any of it. At all." But then she adds, "Actually the stuff I remember now is stuff I really didn't see anything wrong with at the time ... but now that I look back, I can see, 'Oh that wasn't really a good thing.' Like girlfriends. Lots of girlfriends. Like maybe that wasn't so normal to have someone new, like, every week."
Adds Cara: "Everyday. Every minute. Every second."
Kate's take on them and all they've been through? "They're figuring out stuff on their own."
One thing the girls know for sure is that they are more than ready to return to TV. "We'd love to do it again," says Cara. "We miss the crew, the people we saw everyday. It was fun."
And before the interview is over, Cara admits, "Honestly? Our mom is the best."
Meanwhile, In Touch Weekly caught up with Jon Gosselin for a cover story this week.
When asked about Kate wanting to get the kids back on TV, he says, "I consider that exploitation," adding, "She uses them as her props. It's a problem for her that she can't afford our old lifestyle anymore. It's so unfair to them.
