Law officers in the Little Rock area closed out 2006 with three slayings to investigate, including the stabbing death of a two-year-old boy.
The boy was killed in Little Rock on Sunday. Police arrested the child’s father, 34-year-old Demar Sanders, in connection with the murder. Police were called by a pastor in Faulkner County who reported that Sanders was behaving strangely. Police say they found Zackriah Sanders dead inside a home and that Demar Sanders had self-inflicted knife wounds to a wrist.
The slaying marked the 58th homicide in Little Rock for 2006.
In North Little Rock, on Sunday, police found a shooting victim in the kitchen of a duplex apartment.
Police say 50-year-old Danny Broyles of Little Rock died at a hospital.
North Little Rock police say Broyles was visiting a friend at the duplex when police were summoned at about 3:00 p.m.
The death was the city's 13th homicide of 2006.
Pulaski County had its seventh homicide of the year over the weekend. Investigators are looking into the death of a woman whose body was found on Saturday in Lonoke County.
The body of 46-year-old Ethel M- Anders was found on the side of a rural road in Lonoke County. When sheriff's deputies went to Anders' mobile home at 9714 Peters Road, north of Jacksonville, they noticed "a large spot of blood on the floor and a drag smear off to the side."
The homicide was the second of the year associated with the Peters Road address. On January 26, three-month-old Jade McWilliams died after Christopher Johnson, 26, sat on top of her in a recliner. Johnson pleaded no contest to a manslaughter charge in July and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The McWilliams family has moved from the home and officials say a different set of people lived at the home at the time of Anders' killing.
