LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- During this year's legislative session, state lawmakers in Arkansas expanded gun rights and now allow certain college employees to carry a concealed handgun on campus.
Monday in North Little Rock, representatives from campus police departments around the region gathered to talk about improving safety.
Arch Jones, with the UCA Police Department, said the new concealed carry law is among the main points of discussion at Arkansas schools. As for UCA, officials don't think it's a good idea.
"The University of Central Arkansas Police Department, our position on this is that conceal carry weapons with faculty and staff--that would detract from the healthy learning environment on our campus and would pose additional risk for our students," Jones said.
The conference will last for several more days, focusing particularly on leadership and ways of improving safety.
