LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Little Rock Parks & Recreation 2013 "Summer Kickoff" will take place on Saturday, June 8. The event will be hosted at the Rebsamen Tennis Center and the Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatics Center.
"We are very excited with the line-up of activities and programs that we have to offer the City of Little Rock for the summer of 2013," said Little Rock Parks & Recreation Director Truman Tolefree. "We are particularly excited about the Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatic Center and the Rebsamen Tennis Center. Both have new facility managers and a new enthusiasm about them."
The 2013 Summer Kickoff will feature food, music, giveaways and special events at both facilities.
The Rebsamen Tennis Center will open the day by hosting a free clinic with their professional instructors from 9:30 a.m., until 11:00 a.m.
Also, anyone who visits the center that morning will be able to sign-up for a free day of play at the Tennis Center, to be used anytime during 2013.
"I am very excited about joining Little Rock Parks & Recreation and the Rebsamen Tennis Center," said new facility director Chip Stearns. "This is a great facility and I hope that we can bring the tennis community out and show them that Rebsamen is a great place to play tennis."
Stearns became the facility director at Rebsamen Tennis Center in April of this year, having previously served 12 years as Director of Tennis at the Pleasant Valley Country and running Match Point, a tennis retail store, for the past three years.
The Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatics Center will continue the "Summer Kickoff" with activities beginning with a state-wide pickle ball tournament that begins at 10:00 a.m.
At 10:30, the center will offer a free functional fitness training class. At 1:00 a free Aqua Zumba class will be offered.
The center will also be offering a 50-percent discount for a one-month membership to anyone who visits the center and signs up between Saturday, June 8 and Friday, June 14.
