LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Whether or not the White River will become the nation's second Blueway is becoming a topic of debate.
Arkansas County Judge Sonny Cox said Arkansans should get to vote on whether or not the river is a Blueway because he believes the change could affect land and property rights.
"The public is the tax payers. They are the people that need to make this decision. Not the federal government," he said.
Establishing Blueways are part of an Obama administration effort to protect and restore watersheds in America.
Groups like Arkansas Citizens First Congress support of the Blueway designation and say the designation would help keep the river healthy and beautiful.
