MORRILTON, Ark. (KTHV) - The government shut down left many people in disbelief.

"I thought at the last minute there would be some kind of compromise but apparently I was wrong," said Keith Moore.

Employees have been furloughed and many federal entities, closed. But, state parks may actually benefit from the shut down this upcoming weekend.

"All of our facilities normally open are open now," explained Joe Buckley, superintendent of Petit Jean State Park. "I would expect there'd be more business come to the state parks."

Many Arkansans like Keith Moore are bringing their families to the park, taking advantage of the ones still open.

"It's great to have something nearby," added Moore. "A park like this you can just drop in when you get a chance."

With plenty to do at Petit Jean campers are hoping to enjoy a scene that's temporarily off limits at federal parks.
