MONTICELLO - The Harding Lady Bisons made 10 three-pointers and shot 50 percent from the field to defeat the University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team 74-63 on Saturday at home in Great American Conference action.
It was UAM's final home game of the season, and the final home game for senior Candace Virgadamo as a member of the Cotton Blossoms. Fittingly, Virgadamo tied for the team-high in scoring with 12 points.
The Lady Bisons (17-7, 13-5 GAC) led from the opening possession and grew their lead to double-digits at the 8:16 mark of the opening period following a 12-2 scoring run after UAM's Catherine Puckett nailed a jumper at the 13:34 mark to cut HU's lead to just one point.
The Cotton Blossoms (5-19, 2-16 GAC) got to within six points of Harding in the final eight minutes of the first half, and once again cut HU's lead to six points in the first four minutes of the second half before the Lady Bisons used an 11-0 scoring run to recapture a double-digit lead, which they maintained for the remainder of the contest.
Freshman Jordan Goforth tied Virgadamo for the team-high 12 points. Goforth also added five rebounds to her final totals.
As a team, UAM shot 43 percent from the field (22-of-51), 31 percent on three-pointers (4-of-13) and 75 percent on foul shots (15-of-20). HU shot 50 percent from field (27-of-54), 42 percent on three-pointers (10-of-24) and 77 percent on foul shots (10-of-13).
Harding's Arielle Saunders led all scorers with 20 points and recorded a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds.
