FRISCO, Texas (SOUTHLAND) - The Southland Conference has announced forfeitures of two Nicholls State's women's tennis victories against Central Arkansas (5-2) and Oral Roberts (6-1) played Feb. 16 in Conway, Ark. The league's compliance committee determined the forfeitures of the wins after the institution discovered an ineligible student-athlete, as determined by NCAA bylaws, participated in the matches.
The compliance committee ruled that the student-athlete made a noticeable contribution to the wins, as described in Southland Bylaw 6.05.01(b), thus the matches should be forfeited. The committee noted that the institution had no reason to know of the student-athlete's ineligibility in advance and made the required effort to accurately determine such.
The team records of Nicholls State, Central Arkansas and Oral Roberts will be adjusted to reflect the forfeiture. Nicholls State's record reverts to 8-8 overall and 1-3 in conference matches. In addition, Central Arkansas' record improves to 7-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while ORU's record becomes 2-7 overall and 1-3 in league matches.
