HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. - The Harding men's golf team, ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II Central Region, struggled on the par 3s Monday and is tied for seventh of 13 teams after the first round of the Natural State Golf Classic. The final round will be played Tuesday at the par 71, 6,451-yard Red Apple Country Club.
Harding's top four golfers combined for a score of 308, 16 strokes back of tournament leader Faulkner at 292. Union (Tenn.) is second, two strokes back at 294. Lincoln Memorial is third at 300.
Harding had the third-best scoring average of the round on par 5s, playing them at 4-under. The Bisons were seventh of the 13 teams on par 4s, but played the par 3s at 17-over, tied for 10th.
Harding's top golfer in the round was freshman Alex Williamson, who shot 3-over 74 and is tied for 10th. He was 2-under on the round's four par 5s. Sophomore Nathan Kannenberg had four of the Bisons' 10 birdies in the round and is tied for 21st at 76. Lucas Collins and Jordan Perry are tied for 36th at 79, and Brandon Clark is tied for 48th at 81.
Harding's Todd Tyler Williams (t-48th, 81), Lewis Jackson (t-70th, 90), and Ryan Hadash (t-70th, 90) played as individuals.
The tournament's individual leader is Faulkner's Daniel Jansen, who shot 3-under 68.
