JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) - The Arkansas State women's tennis team earned the No. 11 seed for the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Tournament, set to be hosted by the University of Louisiana-Lafayette April 18-21.
A-State opens play Thursday, April 18, at 11:30 a.m. against No. 6 seed Middle Tennessee State (10-11) with the winner moving on to face No. 3 seed Troy.
The Red Wolves finished the regular season with a 5-10 record and were led in singles play by sophomore Tamara Slijepcevic's 11-4 mark, highlighted by a 5-2 record against conference foes.
Junior Biljana Miloshevska finished the regular season with an 8-7 record in singles play, while sophomore Jess Heeps-Eriksen posted a 7-7 record. ASU's top doubles pair is senior Ioana Teu and Janie Nowland with a record of 6-7.
The Blue Raiders beat the Red Wolves on April 7 by a score of 6-1. Tamara Slijepcevic recorded A-State's only point of the match with her 6-3, 6-1 victory over Irina Constantinide. Janie Nowland and Jess Heeps-Eriksen took their respective matches to three sets and Teu/Nowland won their doubles match.
The matches will be split between Cajun Courts, Bourgeois Hall, and Red Lerille's in Lafayette, La. Live stats will be available on the SBC Tennis Championships page of SunBeltSports.org.
