RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.- Senior Thomas Biocic went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one run, while five other Wonder Boys had one hit each as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys (21-20, 15-10 GAC) defeated the Henderson State Reddies (28-17, 15-10 GAC) 6-2 Friday night at Tech Field. In the bottom of the first, Junior Cole Fergus advanced to first on an error by the second baseman and then stole second. Biocic reached first on an error by the shortstop as Fergus ran home to score the first run of the game. During the fourth, senior Drew Stanton singled up the middle. Junior Josh Johnson was hit by a pitch that advanced him to first and Stanton to second. Senior Cesar Abreu singled to left field to send Stanton sprinting home giving the Wonder Boys a 2-0 lead. The Wonder Boys had three runs in the fifth. Biocic drew a walk and then advanced to second on a balk. Senior Jonathan Finnegan singled to right field and advanced to second on the throw, while Biocic scored. Junior Jay Johnson singled to bring in Finnegan. Jay Johnson advanced to second on a wild pitch. Stanton walked while Jay Johnson stole third. Josh Johnson walked, advancing Stanton to second. Josh Johnson, Stanton, and Jay Johnson advanced on a wild pitch, the wild pitch brought home Jay Johnson. Arkansas Tech would add one in the sixth. Junior James Sharp reached first base on an error. Sharp advanced to second on a sac bunt from Fergus. Sharp scored as Biocic doubled through the left side.
The Reddies wouldn't respond until the seventh inning where they would score two runs, which would be the final runs of the game as the Wonder Boys topped the Reddies 6-2. Junior Ryan Taylor took the win after pitching 6.1 innings, giving up two runs, and throwing three strikeouts. Junior Ethan Crocker got the save, his fourth on the season. The Wonder Boys will conclude the series against Henderson State tomorrow, April 20. First pitch on Saturday is at 1 p.m.
