FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The 14th-ranked Arkansas baseball team gets a brief respite from its road stretch as it returns home to face Missouri State on Tuesday night at Baum Stadium. First pitch against the Bears is set for 6:35 p.m.
Arkansas is currently on a four-game winning streak and enters Tuesday's game with a 29-15 overall record. The Razorbacks are coming off a weather-shortened two-game sweep at Georgia last weekend. The Arkansas pitching staff only allowed one run in the two games against the Bulldogs. Brian Anderson went 3-for-7 in the series with a RBI, while Jake Wise was 2-for-6 with two RBI and a run scored.
The Razorbacks are hitting .264 as a team and are led offensively by Anderson, who is batting .322 with two homers and 26 RBI. Jacob Mahan is hitting .300 with a pair of home runs and 16 RBI, while Joe Serrano has a .299 batting average with a homer and 14 RBI. Tyler Spoon has a team-leading 38 RBI and is hitting .295 with three home runs. Brett McAfee is swinging the bat at a .290 clip with nine RBI, while Matt Vinson is hitting .288 with a home run and 19 RBI.
The Razorback pitching staff leads the country with a team ERA of 1.75 and also leads the nation with 6.39 hits allowed per nine innings. Arkansas will start senior left hander Randall Fant in Tuesday's game. Fant was scheduled to start Sunday's series finale at Georgia, but the game was cancelled. The senior southpaw has started eight games and has a 3-1 record with a 2.23 ERA.
The Arkansas bullpen has compiled a 10-5 record with 13 saves and a 1.35 ERA. Jalen Beeks has pitched in a team-high 20 games and has a 5-1 record with two saves and a 1.80 ERA. Colby Suggs has a team-leading seven saves and has a 2.03 ERA in 15 appearances. Brandon Moore has also pitched in 15 games and is 1-2 with a 1.47 ERA. Trent Daniel has appeared in 14 games, 13 in relief, and is 0-1 with one save and a 1.47 ERA. Michael Gunn and Chris Oliver have each pitched in 11 games. Gunn has a 1-0 record with one save and a 0.43 ERA, while Oliver is 2-2 on the season with a 1.93 ERA.
Missouri State also enters Tuesday's game on a hot streak, having won six of its last seven games. The Bears are 27-12 on the season and are coming off a series victory at Evansville last weekend. Missouri State also claimed a 4-2 win at Missouri last Wednesday.
The Bears are hitting .274 as a team entering Tuesday's game. Missouri State is led at the plate by Tate Matheny, who is hitting .363 with a team-high four homers and 25 RBI. Eric Cheray is batting .321 with a homer and 13 RBI, while Keenen Maddox has a .318 batting average with a homer and 24 RBI.
On the mound, Missouri State has a team ERA of 2.88. The Bears are scheduled to start freshman right hander Matt Hall in Tuesday's game. Hall has pitched in 12 games, including three starts, and has a 4-1 record with a 2.64 ERA. Hall earned the win for Missouri State last Wednesday at Missouri, allowing a run on three hits and striking out six in seven innings.
Grant Gordon has pitched in a team-high 20 games, all in relief, and has a 1-2 record with two saves and a 4.05 ERA. Erik Shannahan also has two saves and is 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA in 18 appearances. Tyler Burgess leads the Bears with three saves and has a 3-1 record with a 2.89 ERA in 16 outings.
