Golden Suns ninth after day one of golf NCAA regionals

    ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (ATU) - Rebecka Surtevall carded an opening-round 81 (+9), tying for 13th place, while Niki Possage turned in an opening-round 84 (+12), tying for 22nd as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns shot an opening-day 343, finishing the opening day of the NCAA Super Region 3 Championship in ninth place.

    The Golden Suns are 26 strokes behind overall leader Augustana, and 20 strokes behind third-place Central Oklahoma. Teams must finish in the top three to advance to the NCAA Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla.

    Surtevall sits seven strokes behind the pace set by individual leader Allie Ostrander of Augustana. The top three individual golfers from non-qualifying teams will advance to championship play. At the moment, Surtevall is two strokes back of the cutline.

    Taylor Kline turned in an opening-round 85 (+13), tying for 28th place; Megan Jeffery turned 93 (+22) to tie for 44th, while Megan Kelley shot a 102 and sits in 48th place.

    Play will resume at the region championship on Monday, May 6 at 8:30 a.m.
