Harding's women eighth after round 1 at NCAA Regional

    ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (HARDING) - The Harding women's golf team struggled in round one of the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament on Sunday at the St. Joseph Country Club.

    The Lady Bisons shot 341 in round one and are in eighth place in the nine-team regional. Second round play is Monday with the final round Tuesday.

    Harding's top golfer was sophomore Emily Plyler, who shot 9-over 81 and is tied for 13th place.

    Augustana (S.D.) leads the team competition, shooting 317 in round one. Northeastern State is second at 322, and Central Oklahoma is third at 323. The top three teams and the top three individuals not on those teams advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship on May 15-18 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

    The individual leader after round one is Allie Ostrander of Augustana, who shot 2-over 74. She holds a three-stroke lead over Aly Seng of Central Oklahoma. Plyler is currently tied for fifth among players not on the top three teams.

    Harding senior Becca Godman is tied for 22nd at 84, while senior So-Yun Kim is tied for 33rd at 86. Sophomore Brittany Marquez is tied for 41st at 90, and junior Lani Schwartz is tied for 44th at 93.
    Notes: HU's top player on par 3s was Schwartz (+1), par 4s was Godman (+3), and par 5s was Plyler (+1). Plyler and Marquez both made two birdies. Kim led HU with nine pars.
