JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its NCAA Division I South Central Region rankings this Tuesday (May 14) and Arkansas State University continues to be included among the region's top 15 teams in both men's and women's outdoor track.

The Red Wolves, coached by Jim Patchell, maintained their respective current placings in the 2013 outdoor week seven rankings with the women's team listed ninth and the men's squad ranked 10th in the South Central Region. Both of A-State men's and women's teams are coming off second-place performances at last weekend's (May 10-12) Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Outdoor Track Championships in Miramar, Fla., with 131-point totals apiece.

The ASU women's team compiled a 232.40 score in the most recent computer rankings by the USTFCCCA. The Red Wolves are 56 points away from tying TCU (288.40 pts.) for eighth place and 19.47 in front of 10th-place Houston (212.93 pts.) as Arkansas continues to occupy the number-one place position with a 907.90 team score.

On the men's side, Arkansas State is 10th for the third straight week with a 218.51 score and are 7.62 points in front of 11th-place Texas-Arlington (210.89 pts.) and 22.01 points behind ninth-place TCU (240.52 pts.). Arkansas (952.81 pts.) managed to overtake Arkansas (924.11 pts.) for first place in the South Central Region.

Individually, A-State junior Sharika Nelvis is currently listed in two events among this spring's Track and Field Results Reporting System's (TFRRS) Top 10 NCAA Division I Qualifying Bests. Nelvis, who was recognized as the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Women's Most Outstanding Outdoor Track Performer, is seeded 10th in the long jump and is tied for 10th place with Notre Dame's Jade Barber in the 100-meter hurdles.

A number of Arkansas State men's and women's athletes will be competing in the upcoming 2013 NCAA Division I Track and Field West Preliminary Round to be held May 23-25 at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
