FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Univ. of Ark.) - On day one of competition for the University of Arkansas men's track and field team at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Caleb Cross finished 10th overall in the opening round of the 400-meter hurdles to advance to the event semifinal. The Newport, Ark., native will next run in the semifinal Friday at 7:04 p.m. (CT).

Running in the final of three heats Thursday, Cross secured an automatic spot into the next round with a fourth-place finish in his heat. He posted a time of 51.20, overtaking Alvin Miles, Jr., in the final 50 meters to grab the final automatic spot. Cross just completed his senior season at Arkansas where he was the SEC champion in the event and an NCAA indoor champion with the Razorbacks' 4x400-meter relay team.

Competition for the Razorback men will continue Friday with field-event action for Andrew Irwin in the pole vault and Ken LeGassey in the junior high jump. Irwin has secured the 'A' standard for the IAAF World Championships, clearing 5.70m/18-8.25 to win the NCAA indoor title in March. The USA Championships serve as the qualifying event for the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow.
