SEARCY, Ark. (AP) - Harding University sophomore Alex Williamson has qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
Williamson will tee off on the 10th hole Monday at the Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va.
He qualified for the tournament after finishing in a five-way tie for the third and final qualifying spot in a sectional tournament in Houston. Williamson then eliminated the other four competitors when he birdied the first hole of a playoff for the spot.
The 156-player field plays stroke play on Monday and Tuesday and is cut to the top 64. Those 64 play 18-hole match play events for the next three days. Saturday's championship match is 36 holes.
