FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Univ. of Ark.) - The University of Arkansas women's golf team was selected eight with 462 points in the Golf World/Women's Golf Coaches Association Coaches poll announced today.

The 8th-place pick comes on the heels of Arkansas' 10th-place selection by Golfweek.com last week.

"It is nice to be selected in the top 10 in both of these preseason rankings," Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. "Any time you are mentioned in a preseason poll it is a testament to the players who have come before this year's team and laid the foundation that we are building on.

"We are not going to rest on these preseason selections," Estes-Taylor continued. "Our goal is to work hard every day and be better than we were yesterday in everything we do - the classroom, the community and on the golf course. If we can do that, we will be in great shape at the end of the year."

Arkansas tied for 13th place at last year's NCAA Championship and returns four of the five student-athletes who participated. Senior All-American and All-Southeastern Conference selection Emily Tubert and senior Emma Lavy have helped Arkansas to three consecutive NCAA Championship appearances including a program-best tie for fifth place I 2011. Tubert returns as the team's leading scorer averaging 73.41 last year with two individual titles as a junior.

All-SEC selections sophomores Gabriela Lopez and Regina Plasencia also traveled to 12 events last season. Lopez was second on the team with a 73.77 stroke average and won the Westbrook Invitational as a freshman.

The rest of the team includes a pair of redshirt freshmen in Olivia Lavy and Kayli Quinton and true freshman Summar Roachell, all of whom will challenge for traveling spots this year.

Defending national champion Southern California was selected in the top spot followed by SEC member Alabama in second. Six SEC teams were selected in the top 25 tying the Pac-12 and six other league members received votes in the preseason poll.

The Razorback women's golf team opens the 2013-14 season Sept. 9-11 at the Dale McNamara NCAA Preview in Tulsa, Okla. Fans should visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com for additional information leading up to the event.
