CONWAY, Ark. (UCA) -- The Central Arkansas men's soccer team improved to 2-0 under the new lights at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex on Friday, taking down Oral Roberts 1-0 to improve to 2-1-0 on the year.

The two teams combined for 15 shots in the match, but managed only four in the first half. But the game's only goal came in the 30th minute, when Logan Miller scored his third goal of the season on a free kick from 25 yards out to give the Bears the 1-0 lead. "It's the same spot that he scored from against Incarnate Word on Monday," said head coach Ross Duncan of the goal. "We asked him to keep it on fram, and he did, and the goal was the difference." Miller's goal proved to be the only one the Bears needed, as keeper Taran Meyer made three saves in the second half to maintain the shutout. "Taran has been excellent in training," said Duncan. "He's young, so he hasn't really had the chance to prove himself, but we decided to give him that opportunity, and he did a great job."

Wes Carson led Central Arkansas with four shots, placing three on goal. Miller and Jordan Bates were the other Bears to place shots on goal. Gerardo Salas led the way for the Golden Eagles (0-3-0), placing two of his three shots on goal. Johhnny Chavez and Griffith Poindexter also placed shots on target.

Meyer earned the shutout in the first start of his career, making four saves on the night. Ben LaCourse was in net for Oral Roberts, making four saves and allowing one goal.

The Bears return to the field on Sunday, playing the first of a double-header with the women's team against UMKC. The men kickoff at 11:00 am and the women are scheduled to start at 2:00 pm. The men's game against the 'Roos will serve as the second leg of the Memphis/UCA Classic, which also features Memphis and Oral Roberts.

After the Bears' victory over Oral Roberts and Memphis' 1-0 victory over UMKC, Central Arkansas and the Tigers find themselves tied atop the tourney leader board with three points apiece.
