CONWAY, Ark. - (KTHV) It was a historic day for Hendrix College. The Warriors playing the college's first football game since 1960.
53 years, a long time to wait, but finally today, football returning to Hendrix College. Excitement all around. The Hendrix College Warriors facing Westminster in the 2013 season opener.
"It's a little bit like Christmas, you could say that. It's super exciting. We couldn't wait for football to start. I'm a big football fan, so this is a big deal for Hendrix College," says Travis Raburn, a Hendrix Student.
Gladwin Connell on hand today. He's a 1960 graduate of Hendrix, the last season the Warriors fielded a team.
"I'm delighted that it's back. I've seen a lot of alums that were back in school with me during the late 50's and 60's, they're here today and former football players. It's a great experience," says Hendrix alum Gladwin Connell.
The Warrior faithful treated to an offensive shootout Saturday. Hendrix quarterback Seth Peters throwing for 318-yards and four scores. In the end though, a 25-yard field goal by Steve Crenshaw with one second left the difference. Hendrix winning 46-to-44.
"This is probably one of our biggest wins. It will be for the four years we're here. This is one of our most important wins. It shows the community, even ourselves as a team, that we can go out there and compete with anybody even as a freshman," Peters says.
Without a doubt, football is certainly back at Hendrix College. Up next the Warriors play their first road game of 2013 when they visit Birmingham-Southern next weekend.
