Berry Snaps Hendrix' Streak

    CONWAY, Ark. (Hendrix) - The Hendrix College women's basketball team's four-game winning streak came to an end by falling to Berry College 83-75 in Southern Athletic Association play at Grove Gymnasium on Sunday.

    With the host Warriors (7-7, 1-2) leading 17-16 with 12:18 left in the opening period, the Vikings (6-6, 1-2) ended the half on a 32-17 run, taking a 48-34 lead into the break. Hendrix would get within four points at 79-75 with 14 seconds play in the game, but Marissa Ivey and Emma Cook each made a pair of free throws to secure the win for Berry.

    For the game, the Warriors shot 33.8 percent (26-of-77) from the field, 5-of-27 from three-point range and 18-of-27 at the free throw line. The Vikings shot 44.4 percent (28-of-63) overall, 5-of-11 from outside and 22-of-32 at the stripe. Hendrix held a 50-46 rebound advantage.

    Sophomore point guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler led the Orange & Black with 18 points and five assists. Freshman forward Anna King had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double in the last five games. Freshman guard Peyton Hurst netted points and freshman Taylor Neal added nine points and three assists. Senior center Jamie Tate scored six points, put pulled down 17 rebounds, 11 of which were offensive.

    Three players registered double-doubles for the Vikings. Megan Walsh led the way with 21 points to go with 10 rebounds and four blocks. Cook added 18 points and 11 boards and Mel McLean had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Chanlir Segarra scored 19 points and dished out six assists.

    Hendrix will travel to Memphis, Tenn. on Saturday to face #20 Rhodes College in league action.
