RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (SAU) - Southern Arkansas senior shortstop Tyler Cameron has been named as the Great American Conference Player of the Week as it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Cameron, a native of Parkers Chapel, Ark., earned the GAC weekly award after he hit .429 (6-for-14) while showing some power from the leadoff spot in the Mulerider order this past week. In four games, Cameron had a slugging percentage of 1.143 as he had one double and three homeruns over the week.
One of Cameron's homeruns came in the Muleriders' 17-8 blowout win over LSU-Shreveport in mid-week action while his other two came against Northwestern Oklahoma in conference play.
While Cameron was showing some power potential from the leadoff spot, he was also being a prototypical leadoff hitter throughout the week as he drew five walks, three of which came in SAU's game one win over NWOSU. For the week, Cameron had an on-base percentage of .579
Cameron is now the fourth Mulerider be named either GAC Player or Pitcher of the Week.
