JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) - The Arkansas State football team has placed 10 players, including five first-team selections, on Phil Steele's 2012 All-Sun Belt Conference Team.
The Red Wolves' 10 selections are the second most in the league behind only Louisiana-Lafayette's 12 picks.

Ryan Aplin was named as the publication's first-team quarterback after guiding the Red Wolves to a 9-3 regular-season record its second straight Sun Belt Conference championship with a 7-1 league mark. This is the third time Aplin has been honored by the postseason publication and the second straight season he has earned first team honors.

Joining him as first-team selections are junior running back David Oku and senior offensive lineman Zack McKnight. Oku ran for 1,024 yards during the regular season and became the first A-State running back since 2008 to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season.

McKnight helped anchor an offensive line that paved the way for one of the most prolific offensive attacks in school history. The Red Wolves ran for over 200 yards in seven games and had over 500 yards of total offense on seven occasions. ASU had 5,782 yards of total offense this season and is just 40 yards shy tying the school record for the most yards in a season.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior Nathan Herrold was named as one of the publication's first-team linebackers, while junior Ryan Carrethers was a first-team defensive lineman selection. Herrold led the team with 109 tackles and became the first A-State player since 2007 to have more than 100 tackles in a season. Carrethers was fifth on the team with 63 tackles, 3.5 of which were for a loss.

Freshman wide receiver J.D. McKissic was named a second-team selection along with senior defensive end Tim Starson and sophomore linebacker Qushaun Lee.
Senior wide out Taylor Stockemer and sophomore defensive back Sterling Young were named as third-team selections.
