Weather 101: Fronts & Air Masses

    A front is the leading edge of a different air mass that is taking over another air mass. Fronts get their name from the military, just like an advancing front of soldiers.

    Cold fronts are drawn in blue and warm fronts in red on all color weather charts. The barbs and pips on the front indicate the direction the air is moving.
